Bucktails!

Post by RedneckAngler on Wed Dec 08, 2010 10:58 pm

Just ordered a couple dozen 3 & 4 oz. Hotlips jig heads and bucktails in several different colors. Going to make a bunch of jigs myself for next year. Got some red, white, cerise (hot pink), green and yellow and am also going to order purple and black. I can make 3 or 4 oz. lures for less than $2 as opposed to the $4-5 bucks that you pay for the well made custom ones. Should save some $ and give me something to do this winter. Not as delicate as tying flies as I'm all thumbs.

once you learn that, flies will be easy....like i said i have mad stuff for bucktails i will bringing over---flashabou,synthetic hair, krystal flash, etc....the color combos you can do are insane!i will bring them by when i stop over...pick a day mon tue or wed before you go pulaski.....
good bucktails are upwards of 7-8 dollars, and what you make will probably be comparable to those.i have bought cheap ones before and they arent worth it...hook strength is very important...and when you make your own, well...satisfaction is 2x when you catch a fish!just like fly tying.....i think we can make a large whip finisher for the end knots out of a coat hanger and a pen....send me a pm on what day you think

Got the 3 and 4 oz. finished jigs w/ 8/0 Mustad hooks for $.75 and $1 each, which isn't bad. Shanks are longer than shown. At the prices you can get bulk jigs online it isn't worth the time, effort and $$ to make them, but now I can customize all my jigs for the Race, Housy, etc. with any combinations I want. Powdercoating is also easy. Should be fun. Make up a dozen or so big jigs for the Race and also a ton of smaller ones.
