Got in one last trip on the Gemma Rose today. Next few weekends are planned and I don't see getting out after that. Maybe a party boat day for togs. Anyway, the pike were biting @ Haddam Meadows. Still had some jumbo shiners left over from Sunday, so I went down this morning. Wind was picking up with the system moving up the coast. (With a Nor'Easter coming and high tides, probably a good bet for some late shore stripers as well.) Lots of leaves that made fishing w/ lures hard. Most successful tactic proved to be anchoring along the channel dropoff and setting livelines out towards the shallows. Caught 1 pike just over 30" and had 2 more shiners mauled but no hookup. Good place to go if anyone wants shore action. Talked to a DEP guy. Guys were catching just off the dock. Knowing the season is drawing to a close (no ice fishing for me) sucks, but the year was a blast w/ the Gemma Rose. Probably used it more this season than the 22ft. CC the entire time we had it in VA/NC. Anyway, time to overhaul and winterize the engine, clean the boat down, and park her for the winter.
