the us coastguard requires them if you fish with a boat at night.....i don't have permanent ones, i happen to have gotten the led battery operated ones, and they happen to work well...easy to mount, easy to transport.
also you do need flares...and they can only be stored for two years. Shocked
i got puck style led lights for lighting, but i want to replace them with real led wired lights...cabelas has rope lighting for cheap...i might go that route, because it will cover a big area.

I'VE got the LED lights as well. They will run forever on batteries. I am going to get a big 12v plug-in spot light as well, maybe on a swivel mount.
